Canada's Leylah Fernandez, the No. 6 seed, won the Singapore Tennis Open on Sunday, 27 September, beating Australia's Talia Gibson 7–5, 6–0 in 1 hour 38 minutes (WTA). It is her sixth WTA Tour singles title and her first since Osaka last October. In Saturday's semi-final she rallied from a set down to beat No. 5 Maja Chwalińska 1–6, 6–4, 6–2 (WTA). Chwalińska won the first five games and a stretch of 15 straight points before Fernandez reset; the Canadian hit 31 winners, came to the net 37 times (winning 22 of those points), and closed with a backhand winner after 2 hours 8 minutes (WTA). Gibson, in her first WTA Tour final, had advanced without playing her semi-final after Tatiana Prozorova withdrew with a concussion (WTA). On the men's ATP Tour in China, top seed Daniil Medvedev beat Valentin Royer 7–6(6), 6–3 in Hangzhou and meets Coleman Wong in the quarter-finals after Wong beat Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 7–6(2), 4–6, 6–3; in Chengdu, Lloyd Harris upset No. 1 seed Valentin Vacherot 6–4, 7–6(5) and meets Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals (Reuters / Field Level Media; TennisNow).
