Rybakina Beats Shnaider to Reach Ningbo Final
The world No. 1 needs 11 set points to win the first set and is broken at love serving for the match, and she plays Leylah Fernandez in the final
Elena Rybakina faced only one break point against Diana Shnaider and made 42 unforced errors. Her first-set win came on her 11th set point, and Shnaider broke her at love when she served for the match.
Rybakina, the defending champion, plays Leylah Fernandez in the final. Fernandez won the last three games to beat Marie Bouzkova 6–3, 7–5. She broke Bouzkova eight times and was broken five times.
It is Rybakina's 28th career final and Fernandez's 10th.
Rybakina leads their head-to-head 3–2 and has won the last two meetings, including one in Stuttgart this year on her way to the title there.
"It was an important game and a very long one," Rybakina said. "It was a struggle on my serve. I was playing first balls really well, but then on advantage I wouldn't close the game, and there were so many opportunities. But I'm glad that in the end it went my way."
