Bodø/Glimt Beat Dortmund

Fredrik Sjøvold scored early in the second half for a 1–0 win that UEFA said was the Norwegian club's first against a German team.

Bodø/Glimt beat Borussia Dortmund 1–0 in the Champions League at the Aspmyra Stadium in Bodø, the town north of the Arctic Circle in Norway. Kickoff was 9 p.m. CEST (3 p.m. ET), and the crowd was 7,885.

UEFA said it was Bodø/Glimt's first win against a German team. In their first match of the league phase, they had lost 5–0 to Bayern Munich.

The first half was goalless, and it ended 0–0 after one minute of added time. Dortmund had two players booked before the half hour: Joane Gadou in the 13th minute and Fábio Silva in the 25th.

The goal came seven minutes into the second half. Sondre Auklend sent a low cross in from the right, and Fredrik Sjøvold, a defender, side-footed it with his left foot into the bottom corner from the center of the area in the 52nd minute.

Dortmund's coach, Niko Kovac, changed four players in the 60th minute. Felix Nmecha replaced Joey Veerman, Ethan Nwaneri replaced Konstantinos Karetsas, Serhou Guirassy replaced Silva and Julian Ryerson replaced Samuele Inácio. Carney Chukwuemeka came on for Maximilian Beier in the 77th.

Nmecha shot, and the Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper, Nikita Haikin, tipped it wide. Haikin made four saves in all.

Dortmund had slightly more of the ball, 52 percent, and won 10 corners to Bodø/Glimt's four. They sent in 27 crosses; three found a teammate. Bodø/Glimt made 33 clearances to Dortmund's 17. Dortmund had nine shots, four on target, and did not score. Bodø/Glimt had 11 shots, three on target. They also made 19 tackles and won 14 of them; Dortmund won nine of 15. Dortmund completed 504 of 583 passes, Bodø/Glimt 467 of 550. Dortmund were caught offside three times and Bodø/Glimt once, and Bodø/Glimt finished without a booking.

Bodø/Glimt's only change came in the 78th minute, when Ola Brynhildsen replaced Jens Petter Hauge. The match ended after four minutes of added time.

The Guardian said Dortmund, the 2024 Champions League runners-up, join Manchester City, Inter and Sporting as recent big-name clubs beaten on the artificial grass at the Aspmyra Stadium, which holds 8,200 people and is the smallest ground in this season's competition.

Kovac spoke after the match. "There's nothing we can complain about, we deserved to lose," he said. "We didn't bring enough passion today."

Both clubs have three points from two matches, Bodø/Glimt from this win and Dortmund from their first match. It was Dortmund's first defeat of the league phase.

Wednesday's nine matches produced 46 goals, among them Paris Saint-Germain's 4–2 win at Manchester City, Real Madrid's 4–3 win at Roma, Aston Villa's 6–0 win over Fenerbahçe and Liverpool's 6–3 win at LASK in Linz. Bodø/Glimt's single goal was enough.

Bodø/Glimt play at Napoli on October 20, and Dortmund play Sabah in Azerbaijan.
